{"id":1651,"date":"2011-04-07T17:46:24","date_gmt":"2011-04-08T00:46:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amicuscuria.com\/wordpress\/?p=1651"},"modified":"2011-04-14T10:04:27","modified_gmt":"2011-04-14T17:04:27","slug":"the-ten-principles-of-a-free-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/amicuscuria.com\/wordpress\/the-ten-principles-of-a-free-society\/","title":{"rendered":"The Twelve Principles of a Free Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<em>A claim for equality of material position can be met only by a government with totalitarian powers.<\/em>&#8221;  -Friedrich Hayek-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">Rights belong to individuals, not groups; they derive from our nature and can neither be granted nor taken away by government.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">All peaceful, voluntary economic and social associations are permitted; consent is the basis of the social and economic order.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">Justly acquired property is privately owned by individuals and voluntary groups, and this ownership cannot be arbitrarily voided by governments.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">Government may not redistribute private wealth or grant special privileges to any individual or group.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">Individuals are responsible for their own actions; government cannot and should not protect us from ourselves.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">Government may not claim the monopoly over a people&#8217;s money and governments must never engage in official counterfeiting, even in the name of macroeconomic stability.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">Aggressive wars, even when called preventative, and even when they pertain only to trade relations, are forbidden. Stockpiling, developing, manufacturing, deploying, brandishing, or threatening 1st use of nuclear weapons is forbidden.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">Jury nullification, that is, the right of jurors to judge the law as well as the facts, is a right of the people and the courtroom norm.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">All forms of involuntary servitude are prohibited, not only slavery but also conscription, forced association, and forced welfare distribution.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">Government shall abide by those same laws that govern the people. There shall be no sovereign immunity. Government must remain forever transparent and never use force to mold behavior, manipulate social outcomes, manage the economy, or tell other nations how to behave.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">A government is legitimate only through the consent of the governed. \u00a0Its core functions are strictly limited to providing for the national defense, preventing force &amp; fraud, plus serving as a means of last resort to provide\/protect basic necessities of life, including food, shelter, clean air and water, as well as basic health care, to\/for those most vulnerable unable to provide the same for themselves. \u00a0A government exhibiting a general fear\/hostility toward its own citizenry is presumed to be illegitimate. The people shall be secure in their person, business, private affairs\/associations, dwellings, and personal affects. \u00a0They shall be provided with meaningful Due Process along with no less than any rights enumerated in the UN Charter of Human Rights, the US and their State Constitution, as well as any\/all natural\/human rights including the right to be left alone.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: small;\">When a government becomes persistently oppressive to the rights of the people, it shall be their right of self determination and duty to dissolve it in favor of one formed of their choosing committed to honoring these principles for all the people.
