Everyone’s favorite brunette Mouseketeer, Annette Funicello, from Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club died today. Annette was Disney’s favorite and he was her 2nd father figure. She never disappointed him in maintaining her squeaky clean image. Walt Disney took a hand in promoting her post-mouseketeer career in ways he never did for the other cast members.
This ennui on Disney’s part rankled one ambitious starlet, Doreen, to the point that she deliberately set out to embarrass Disney Studios for failing to help her prop up her career once she became an adult and down on her luck. The now much older Doreen had gained too much weight and girth to pass as a leading actress. So it was she posed, topless, with two large gold rings piercing her nipples on her ample breasts while she posed on a Harley wearing nothing…what else?…but a pair of Mickey Mouse ears.
Annette died from complications due to multiple sclerosis, a chronic incurable progressive disease which attacks the central nervous system. Annette refused to bare so much as her belly button in her adult acting career out of genuine deference/respect for Disney, who had always doted on her.
