Like many of you, I grew up perplexed by the tale of The Emperor’s New Clothes. For those not familiar with the story, let me bring you up to speed: An emperor who cares more about clothes than his kingdom commissions two tailors who promise him the finest suit of clothes from the most beautiful cloth. This cloth, they tell him, is invisible to anyone too stupid/misled to see it (when in reality the cloth is an artifice — it doesn’t exist.) The emperor is gulled by his own arrogance and greed; the con-artist tailors go on a spending spree.
But even as a youth, I imagined nobody could be THAT stupid, yet here I am, as an adult, witnessing it! Adage and Simpson have harnessed the arrogance and greed found in Tim Sheldon (as well as Jay Hupp) for their own profit at the expense of the community.
