How they ‘plug’ prisoner’s bottoms before execution

What do they ‘plug’ prisoners bottoms with before they get executed by the electric chair and why do they bother if they give them a diaper?

Warning, Spoilers about soilers, visual medical content , and an electrifying revelation from Arkansas and Texas (Texe-cution) up ahead:

But first , a brief background and synthesis of the current events that may be the source of the question. The question might be responding to the scene in a TV movie, broadcast on Youtube.

The first two minutes of the 10Th segment here sensationalizes Ted Bundy bemoaning being stuffed with the cotton balls before electrocution.

The 1995 movie Dead Man Walking reports the quip about dignity early in this clip, when the inmate snaps that “as a grown man I have to leave this world in slippers and a diaper “.

The quip is snapped early in the scene above, quoting the concerns of an actual inmate that the Sister knew. The Inmate was electrocuted IRL, in a diaper, and the character in the movie is the deadman walking to the Lethal injection gurney.

The electric chair and the gas chamber may have been subconsciously designed to showcase the inmate in the final moments, sitting in a position akin on the toilet and then being symbolically flushed away by the State after they evacuate. Such an intent might be far fetched, but this physical positioning might encourage the inmate to involuntarily evacuate bowels. The inmate can reciprocate, projecting shame on the system. They may have heard tell of a prisoner who ordered a last meal of beans and strawberries in order to leave a postscript lingering after uttering their official last words in the gas chamber. Ask the Mississippi crew who had to clean up after pronouncing with drawl and all, “He died in the chamber“. Prisoners taking a hand in leaving a mess -like participating in the execution by inhaling the gas- may pay homage to role models from the 1970s on the Dirty Protest Dirty protest – Wikipedia. Naturally, the Department of Corrections staff will want to safeguard against these last ditch efforts to make a political statement against the execution or the system at large.

Regardless of the method of execution, incontinence products are going to be part of the prison attire , and the matter here is whether our cotton ball-pit is going to be internal or external:
(F)actual News media coverage shows gurneys used for lethal injection are carved out to fit a bowl of cotton balls to catch and absorb the output . This improvised commode and incontinence products are lined with the same material, cotton.

In reality, adult briefs are not reliable -the manufacturer of Depends tries to convey that you can count on this brand of briefs to not leak. Adult briefs can’t conform to diverse bodies to form a tight fit. perhaps. Adult briefs don’t hold water and may alone be ineffective when the inmate evacuates entirely during the execution. It’s physiologically possible to evacuate lying down on a bedpan.

The adult brief itself is not going be sufficient to keep the inmate and gurney dry. Sister Prejean exposed in her 2nd book that the warden kept prompting the inmate she supposed to drink copious amounts of water during the day of the lethal injection. The nun characteristically asked “why “ innocently, is this odd rite necessary -hydration makes the vein visible to those inserting the needle who necessarily have limited medical expertise.

On some level the warden knows from experience that he is sending the inmate with a full bladder to the gurney. The inmate goes to the bathroom beforehand but it can take several trips to empty after that spontaneous hydration (which is medically as arbitrary as this sudden death. )

I’m adding some supporting visual evidence. The pictures show a gurney with a hole in position where the brief would be worn. I don’t think the holes are to store the two leg straps, because not every gurney has this feature; some are solid. (the room with the whitewashed walls pictured below (bottom ) is Arkansas’ chamber. The chamber painted in the institutional green is in Texas.

I’m searching for the image of the bowl filled with cotton balls underneath the gurney. This would be a fleeting rare image because the scene would be set just prior to execution, and the media’s camera are blocked. I am a heavy consumer of media on the topic, and theorize that the image is in a full length documentary. I have to watch them again and freeze the frame.
