Mr. Hupp,

Apparently the recall petition (judging from your letter to The Journal editor) has newly focused your attention on the citizens.  Having mentioned the 3 community Blogs (including my own) I’m most familiar with, I can assure you mine has more affinity for the spirit of the 1st Amendment.  That includes The Journal and even the KMAS website.   I invite you to POST (or comment) your views on this Mason County Blog,

http://amicuscuria.com/wordpress

to carry on an open debate with residents and myself…not because I’m a ‘fan’ of yours (I’m not) but to enlighten the community about why you are being recalled, why you are held in contempt by local residents, and why the ‘support’ you claim in your letter to the editor is largely fictitious.  You’ll be given an open opportunity to rebut these assertions/allegations, if you can.

Toward that end, you have my word I will not allow the kind of immaterial personal attack in this forum debate you allowed on Jack Miles by Steve Bloomfield (one of your supporters?) while chairing a recent Port meeting.  Short of that, just about anything LEGAL goes!  I know you’re intimidated by the idea of going to the barrio where the community would have unfettered access to you without your gavel.  This is your opportunity to present your case in a truly open forum unlike any other Mason County/Shelton blog.  The turn around time will be virtually instantaneous compared to The Journal (weekly, if it publishes your letter at all) or vulnerable to the kind of censorship (on the other blogs) under which you might (as do I) chafe.

The flip side is, nobody is going to handle you with kid gloves like you’re used to when chairing the Port of Shelton meetings.  Well, Jay?  Have you got the spine to face the community for which you suggest you’re doing these huge favors?  After all, according to your logic, they should love you, n’est pas?  Bring them to the party, if you like.  In the interest of fairness, I will not allow anonymous comments/posts (although I normally do) to this particular debate centering, as it does, on you holding your current office.  REAL NAMES *will* be used.  Carpe diem!

Failing that, discussion will proceed apace without your participation.

This challenge/opportunity is being openly posted/published.

ps:  Other blogs are welcome to link to this debate/discussion.

1 Response to Open Debate Challenge to Commissioner Jay Hupp

Mossy Mom said…(quote from John Cox’s community blog)

“Did he name the blogs by name? I don’t read the journal. I certainly don’t want to be in his or anyone’s sights. I’m having enough issues with someone who is supposed to be on our side and yet keeps stealing my photos! Is there a copy of this journal article online somewhere? Am I going to need a lawyer? How worried should I be about this perceived threat thing? I thought Jay would be much more worried by the powerful folks who are behind the recall than by a silly photo shop parody. But maybe I’m an easier target??”

    I said/commented…

*sigh* But Mossy, you *are* one of the ‘powerful’ folks behind the recall. YOURS is one of the 13 signatures on it! Somehow, I doubt John Cox (as usual) will allow the unmitigated truth to come out here. i.e. I’ll have to post this on *my* blog (http://amicuscuria.com/wordpress). The TRUTH is the following 13 names are the signatories to that petition: (AKA Mossy’s among them)

Carol Fuller Hepburn……970 SE Cook Plant Farm Rd, Shelton, WA 98584
Harry Hepburn…………….970 SE Cook Plant Farm Rd, Shelton, WA 98584
John Cox……………………..PO Box 2326, 461 E Parkway Blvd, Shelton, WA
Christine Armond…………PO Box 2326, 461 E Parkway Blvd, Shelton, WA
Shawnie Vedder…………..1218 W Franklin St, Shelton, WA 98584
    Frances M Prescott………180 E Connemara Way, Shelton, WA 98584
Sharon Donaldson (sic?)..719 Dawn Ave, Shelton, WA 98584
    M. Beth McBain……………401 E. Hiawatha Blvd, Shelton, WA

All this can be found at the following link:

I will include a LINK on my blog to the petition signature page that includes the names of the petitioners and their addresses listed. It’s public information, folks. Develop the spine to stand up for what you believe in!…no slinking around in the shadows. And as one of the signatories, Mossy HAS become part of this political process, ergo, she may be QUOTED in that context. I fully intend to do so as part of *MY* editorial policy in this instance. She, et ux, are no more ‘victims’ than any other party to this dispute.

BTW, I’d have gladly signed the recall petition myself were I eligible. We don’t reside within the Port of Shelton boundaries. But we’ll get to breathe the crap Adage, and Jay Hupp plan on emitting just the same!
