Chicago Riders Sickened by Toxic Diesel Soot

Train riders exposed to toxic diesel soot, paper finds (Chicago Tribune)

Soot Components

(Read it and weep, fellow air breathers!  Adage with its smokestack and vast fleet of diesel trucks is coming to Shelton…breathe deep.)

Day after day, thousands of commuters are breathing high levels of toxic diesel pollution trapped in Chicago’s two major

Simpson Train Exhaust Destroys Lives

rail stations and even inside the trains they ride, a Chicago Tribune investigation has found.

Testing by the newspaper found that the amount of diesel soot lingering in the air steadily increases as commuters walk deeper into Union Station of the Ogilvie Transportation Center.  Levels of the lung and heart damaging pollution jump higher on platforms, where acrid blue clouds of

Unregulated Diesel Truck Pollution

diesel exhaust hovers between trains, many of them built in the 1970’s.

It get dramatically worse after boarding a train.  As the doors close and the locomotive pulls out of the station, Tribune testing found, the air trapped inside the stainless-steel cars contains levels of diesel soot up to 72 times higher than on the streets

outside. (c)

It is estimated the amount of pollution the fleet of diesel trucks serving Adage will release into the community to be 7X that of what the bio-incinerator itself will release!

This is an example of the clean energy Adage promises to Mason County residents.

Open Debate Challenge to Commissioner Jay Hupp

Pursuant to current recall efforts to remove Jay Hupp from office as Port of Shelton Commissioner, the following Open Debate Challenge is made:

Mr. Hupp,

Apparently the recall petition (judging from your letter to The Journal editor) has newly focused your attention on the citizens.  Having mentioned the 3 community Blogs (including my own) I’m most familiar with, I can assure you mine has more affinity for the spirit of the 1st Amendment.  That includes The Journal and even the KMAS website.   I invite you to POST (or comment) your views on this Mason County Blog,

http://amicuscuria.com/wordpress

to carry on an open debate with residents and myself…not because I’m a ‘fan’ of yours (I’m not) but to enlighten the community about why you are being recalled, why you are held in contempt by local residents, and why the ‘support’ you claim in your letter to the editor is largely fictitious.  You’ll be given an open opportunity to rebut these assertions/allegations, if you can.

Toward that end, you have my word I will not allow the kind of immaterial personal attack in this forum debate you allowed on Jack Miles by Steve Bloomfield (one of your supporters?) while chairing a recent Port meeting.  Short of that, just about anything LEGAL goes!  I know you’re intimidated by the idea of going to the barrio where the community would have unfettered access to you without your gavel.  This is your opportunity to present your case in a truly open forum unlike any other Mason County/Shelton blog.  The turn around time will be virtually instantaneous compared to The Journal (weekly, if it publishes your letter at all) or vulnerable to the kind of censorship (on the other blogs) under which you might (as do I) chafe.

The flip side is, nobody is going to handle you with kid gloves like you’re used to when chairing the Port of Shelton meetings.  Well, Jay?  Have you got the spine to face the community for which you suggest you’re doing these huge favors?  After all, according to your logic, they should love you, n’est pas?  Bring them to the party, if you like.  In the interest of fairness, I will not allow anonymous comments/posts (although I normally do) to this particular debate centering, as it does, on you holding your current office.  REAL NAMES *will* be used.  Carpe diem!

Failing that, discussion will proceed apace without your participation.

This challenge/opportunity is being openly posted/published.

ps:  Other blogs are welcome to link to this debate/discussion.

Jay Hupp tracks Rahn Redman

Jay Hupp's dirt inquest

Jay Hupp was seen, today, demanding access to Rahn Redman’s application for US Postal bulk mailing rates.  Could this have anything to do with the recall petition to remove Port Commissioner Hupp from office?

Mr. Hupp’s request was rejected by the Shelton US Post Office.

Jack Miles vs. Steve Bloomfield

Jack works with the community

I e-mailed a man I deeply respect, Jack Miles, out of concern he may have been blackmailed or coerced at a recent official public forum using Port of Shelton facilities in a vain attempt to embarrass him.  This was, at minimum, an egregious abuse of that forum in pursuit of what had no bearing on Port business whatsoever.  I’m requesting the audio to see exactly what was said and if it constituted a crime.  Out of respect for Port of Shelton Commissioner Jack Miles, I will also publish the e-mail response I received provided I get Mr. Miles’ permission, though I note one other community Blog has already done so.  I can tell you it makes the dishonorable Steve Bloomfield look like an insect.

Chairman Jay Hupp, who can get all worked up about phantoms sitting in HIS chair, and is so quick to squelch residents who vary even slightly from his narrow agenda, thought nothing of allowing Mr. Bloomfield to usurp the proceedings to go on a witch hunt.  Not only was that attempt despicable, but Mr. Hupp’s accommodation of it was egregiously reprehensible…and this from the same man who wanted to censure Mr. Miles  for (in Jack’s private capacity) criticizing Lt. Governor Brad Owens’ public support of Adage and Tim Sheldon.  The hypocrisy exhibited by Mr. Hupp is stunning!

Mr. Miles spent part of his life honorably and proudly serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.  Mr. Steve Bloomfield spent part of his time putting fellow citizens at risk of their lives by negligent driving on this State’s highways.  He was cited by the Washington State Patrol and plead guilty by forfeiting bail.

To all the Concerned Citizens of Mason County:

(From: Jack Miles)  November 3, 2010

I spent the night reliving the horrible and unnecessary comments Mr. Bloomfield brought to the Port meeting on Tuesday. However, it is time I clear the air and address Mr. Bloomfield’s question.

After a night of praying for answers as to what to do about Mr. Bloomfield’s comment’s at the meeting, I realized I already knew the answer. So I am writing to clear the air about my Military discharge.

First, I am proud to be an American and I am proud that I served my county in the United States Marine Corps. I was discharged from the Marines under “Other Than Honorable Conditions” and here’s the reason why; at the time of my service, President Clinton came into office. One of his campaign promises was to lift the ban on gays in the military. At that time, I had several gay friends in the military, mostly women. I was hopeful that President Clinton would be able to follow through with his campaign promise.

I grew up in San Diego, California and had a few gay friends that so desperately wanted to serve their country too, but had fear they would be exposed if they joined. As did I have friends in the military that were gay and feared being exposed. After President Clinton tried to make that a reality, the rank and file of the armed forces were running scared and began a witch hunt to get as many gay military personnel out as possible before or if this would happen. At the time, I was not shy about where I stood with gays in the military, nor am I now. The unfortunate situation that resulted from my position was, the military tried to get me to turn over names of all of my friends who were gay and who I thought might be gay….AND I REFUSED! I was told if I didn’t provide names, I would be tried for obstruction of Justice and conduct unbecoming a United States Marine. Rather than give up there names and put them through the humiliation, I took the deal to leave the Marine Corps under other than honorable conditions. But let me make one thing perfectly clear, that piece of paper does not change the fact that I served my country with honor and I am proud I was able to protect my fellow Marines and I would do it again.

I am utterly sad that it has come to this and I want to personally apologize for not being upfront on Tuesday. My hope was that I would not have to tell this story, but it appears Mr. Bloomfield will stop at nothing to spread a horrible lie and make me look bad. So please forgive me from the bottom of my heart. I thought what I said Tuesday was the right thing to do at the time and it was never meant to mislead you in any way. I just thought I could stand by my statement that “I served my country and I did it well” would be enough, however it got the best of me last night.

So to answer Mr. Bloomfield’s question, I will not resign as your representative. I protected my fellow Marines, this country and I will continue to protect you, “The Concerned Citizens of Mason County”.

Semper Fi,

Jack Miles, Commissioner
Port of Shelton

Jack,

You deserve a chapter in John F. Kennedy’s PROFILES IN COURAGE.  I’m proud to have you as my countryman and friend.  I want to thank you for offering me (and the community) a teachable moment.  We never doubted you.  If anything, this increases my respect for you, although that wasn’t Mr. Bloomfield’s intent.

I will tell you I called him on the phone to ask if he said anything about releasing any ’embarrassing’ documents if you did not resign.  He denied it.  I told him I would check the audio of the meeting to hear it first hand.  If I hear an utterance from him of coercion or blackmail, I’d like to file a criminal complaint/report.

And, to help further educate the community, may I have your permission to post your e-mail on my community Blog?

I look forward to seeing you, but with a heightened appreciation of your strength of character.  You’ve taught me a lot.

Scorched Earth/Copper Defense?

The post regarding The Killing Of The Golden Spruce on this Blog is not the only variant of a scorched earth defense of the forests in an asymmetrical  war against powerful corporate enemies and their allies intent on devouring these very resources to the detriment of the population.

scorched earth policy is a military strategy or operational method which involves destroying anything that might be useful to the enemy while advancing through or withdrawing from an area. Although initially referring to the practice of burning crops to deny the enemy food sources, in its modern usage the term includes the destruction of infrastructure such as shelter, transportation, communications and industrial resources. The practice may be carried out by an army in enemy territory, or its own home territory. It may overlap with, but is not the same as, punitive destruction of an enemy’s resources, which is done for purely strategic/political reasons rather than strategic/operational reasons.

Even the Greedy have Pet Trees

BOYCOTT and SHUNNING can have the same effect, if requiring more patience. Picket lines and recording the images, license numbers, and names of those (or labor organizations) who cross it should be thrown into the mix. Again, this requires commitment and perseverance.

As to ethical/moral/legal considerations AND PARADOXES, consider the following description of crimes against humanity and the environment promoted by the criminal corporations intent on pursuing a policy of BioMassacre for profit…literally a scorched earth strategy in and of itself:

The strategy of destroying the food supply of the civilian population in an area of conflict has been banned under Article 54 of Protocol I of the 1977 Geneva Conventions. The relevant passage says:

It is prohibited to attack, destroy, remove, or render useless objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, such as foodstuffs, agricultural areas for the production of foodstuffs, crops, livestock, drinking water installations and supplies, and irrigation works, for the specific purpose of denying them for their sustenance value to the civilian population or to the adverse Party, whatever the motive, whether in order to starve out civilians, to cause them to move away, or for any other motive.[1]

Despite being prohibited, it is still a common practice. The protocol only applies to those countries that have ratified it, notable exceptions being the United States, Israel, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and Iraq.  Click HERE for more info on this topic.

See:  Patton Rallies The Community.

A wholesale slaughter of the forests themselves isn’t necessary in such a strategy.  The GOLDEN SPRUCE gives testimony to this.  In fact, the wealthy owners of these corporations and corrupt organizations (e.g. TESC) are loathe to have their tender eyes behold the ravages of BioMassacre.  THEIR forests are beautifully tended and left untouched by the scythe of corporate greed.  That blade is left to fall on the poor and rural inhabitants being promised ‘jobs, jobs, jobs’ much as some destitute people/minorities are offered $ for their organs.

BioMassacre represents an important element of social injustice with the exception this particular chicken has come home to roost in our backyards.  It’s taking place NOW before our very eyes and we will be the first to enjoy the ills it affords.

Act now!…either unilaterally or in concert with others.  YOU can boycott businesses and individuals who promote the destruction of our health, our quality of life.  YOU can refuse to do business with them…ALL of them, including members of the Mason Chamber of Commerce that supports this hostile occupying force.  If you’re not the OWNER of a business, but only an employee, consider being slow to cater to one of the enemy.  Let them remain on hold, if they call, for 5 minutes or more.  Do not SPEAK to or ACKNOWLEDGE them.  In short, treat them about the way our elected representatives have been treating the public regarding this issue.  Don’t whine!  Be proactive.  Be creative.  Be aggressive and be careful!  They have the $, the big political names (even Senator Patty Murray), the Obama Administration, the highest offices in Washington State, and the police powers of the State behind them.

Che'

Another ‘scorched earth’ strategy is the aggressive pursuit of lawsuits and obtaining intervenor status starting NOW.  Rely, primarily, on ‘small arms’ lawsuits.  Throwing money at pricey environmental attorneys may seem effective in the short run, but when the $ runs out, they won’t remember your name. By filing simpler Do-It-Yourself suits, you will have much more staying power.  You’ll also help educate your neighbors.

Money spent on education of the public has the advantage of creating a collective memory which $ to expensive attorneys does not.

Tim Sheldon’s Wife Speaks Out

An exchange between myself & Linda (Tim’s Wife) regarding his candidacy:

Amicus Curia October 31 at 12:00am

If this is Tim Sheldon’s wife who complained about community blog censorship recently, you’re welcome to post on *my* blog. (Mason County Blog) Although I’m one of your husband’s harshest critics, I won’t ‘censor’ you. I’ll even provide you with ‘author’ privileges, if you’d like.

Adage Buys Mason County

Despite my prolific and severe criticism of Tim’s policies along with his handmaidens (e.g. Jay Hupp), I’ve never encountered any attempt on his part (or those in league with him) to attenuate my 1st Amendment rights. I’d like to extend those same civil rights along with my respect for them to you.

Much of what you say, I know to be true. I caught Tim mowing the yard of his rental house back in 2000 when I worked for the US Census. So I know, despite his wealth, he *can* be a ‘regular’ guy. Somewhere between then and now, he lost his way. It’s a shame the community has to attack him politically to defend itself. But perhaps you can express his views on the issue better than he, himself, has managed to date?

Don’t expect a picnic, though. People are pretty passionate about air quality, our children, and the privatization of the air itself, benefitting wealthy corporations including taxpayer provided subsidies for the insult and damage.

My e-mail is pinbalwyz@yahoo.com and my blog is:
http://amicuscuria.com/wordpress
Check it out. If I receive your e-mail address (which I do not presently have) I’ll forward an official invitation to it. I’m a 1st Amendment absolutist. I believe it is the only route to transparency in government. I respect the spirit, not just the letter, of that law.

Linda Honan Sheldon November 1 at 9:59pm Report

I respectfully decline your offer, but I’m glad you heard me. My husband is NOT, nor has he ever been, a “corporatist.” We are not wealthy. He has earned by hard work whatever income we have. He is in no way connected to Adage. He has not lost his way. We both are passionate about air quality, children. The information you received about Adage from Mr. Badgely is sadly lacking in accuracy.

Linda, I believe in marriage, including yours, and respect it.  But, I know of instances PERSONALLY that indicate the contrary about  Tim’s ‘respect’ for air quality.  Much of it *is* on my blog, which is why I offered you an opportunity to respond there without being ‘censored’.  Certainly you’re under no ‘obligation’ to do so.

Corporatist: Last I checked (www.pdc.wa.gov) a couple of weeks ago, Tim has raised $117,000 in contributions to Nancy Williams’ $7,000, Tim’s almost entirely from corporate donors!  Tim literally had about 4X as many corporate contributors as human ones!  I knew it was bad, but even *I* was shocked at the ratios.  His list of contributors reads like a who’s who from Baron’s.  In politics, you follow the money.  Doing so, in this instance, has been more than revealing…it’s been startling.

Although Tim’s not an Indian, he’s on the board of a major corporation owned by the Squaxin Tribe.  So naturally, he and they are political/business allies.  He is or has been on the board of many other corporate interest centered organizations…like Energy NW, EDC, the list goes on.  But the PDC data base sheet speaks for itself.  Have you looked at it?

Wealthy: You used the term ‘we’.  I don’t know much about your nest egg.  But public records reveal Tim received a substantial inheritance and owns (or his corporation) vast tracts of exceedingly valuable timberland, most of which has been deprecated 90% (or MORE) for property tax purposes.

The ‘more’ is disturbing since 90% is the limit the law allows under the 1930’s legislation for commercial timberland program for property tax attenuation.  It’s also supposed to be a minimum parcel size of 20+ acres and I see Tim (or his corporation) received this tax benefit for a 17ac parcel.

There were far too many valuable parcels for me to review them all, but ‘wealthy’??  uhhh….perhaps it’s relative.  You don’t have to be Bill Gates to be wealthy.  And I’m not calling Tim indolent, far from it.  I am calling him ‘greedy’, though…based on his apparent LACK of concern for clean air, the environment, the community, its future, and our children–yes.  Not only does he get a tax break for his timberlands, but the legislation he supported waives even those taxes he’d otherwise owe for timber sales to the likes of Adage.

It’s been predicted the price of hog fuel could surpass that of saw logs under the current slated scheme.  i.e.  $45/Ton could pale compared to future prices given the supply & demand.  I can’t see what stocks or bonds Tim holds, but the public part of the record indicates he is very well off.  I believe YOU, yourself, during one private conversation opined as much when discussing your private affairs.  Does Tim/you deserve all that?  *sigh*  That’s more than I’m prepared to debate.  But ‘wealthy’?…Hell, yes!

BOTH passionate about air quality, children: Linda, YOU may be.  I can’t be certain.  I deeply respect your efforts to stop the killing and hate incurred in our foreign wars.  I’d think that demonstrated some concern for life.  But I have *not* been led astray (as to the merits) by Mr. Duff Badgley.  That’s an old dodge I’ve often heard from Tim.

The community (and *I*) have done a prodigious amount of work educating ourselves about this issue (BioMassacre and public health).  You can view the tiniest part of the days and weeks it took to do so on my blog (http://amicuscuria.com/wordpress/).  I’ve also posted several videos addressing the matter on youtube.com.  You can find them by searching (on youtube’s search engine) for ‘pinballwyz’, the account name I use there.

I document how Tim (when asked by me, how many signatures it would take from the community to get him to reconsider his position) responded, “It wouldn’t matter!”  THAT was his response, when I asked, TWICE on two separate occasions.  I didn’t need to ask him a 3rd time. (Check the pics of him SNEERING at his constituents pleading their cause):

You say you’re both passionate about air quality and children. I haven’t seen either one of you at the many presentations put on for the community.  I was there, filming, at the candidates’ forum held in our local Olympic College Library when Tim refused to back down when all the candidates were asked about whether they favored the Adage proposal.  Only Tim and Tom Randal answered in the affirmative.

Jerry Lingle now (but not then) vacillates and has accepted $ from people like Jay Hupp and Tom Wallitner.  Representative Kathy Haigh got it wrong some months ago too, but has changed her tune.   When I chided her over the phone during a discussion on this issue, I suggested sentiment in the community was running heavily against Adage, perhaps 10:1 according to the letters to the editor of the Journal.  Kathy responded (and she strikes me as an honest woman) the e-mail, letters, and phone calls her office had been receiving were running more like 100:1!

A recall petition is currently being litigated to remove Jay Hupp from office.  If the community could find a single instance of malfeasance/misfeasance promulgated by Tim, you can bet one would be filed for his removal as well.  Tim and Jay really *are* among the most hated politicians in Mason County.   That truth may be unpleasant, but I spend a lot of time in contact with community members.  No, the community and Mr. Badgley are not inaccurate, your husband is.  Be specific.  Pray tell just WHAT ‘inaccuracy’ do you have in mind?

Are you aware these BioMassacre monsters will be emitting Dioxin into the environment that won’t EVEN BE MONITORED by ORCAA?  How can any agency protect the public health when the most dangerous substance known won’t even be tracked/measured/monitored??  Are you aware Shelton Harbor has 175 ppt of Dioxin in its sediment NOW?  These are NOT a result of ‘natural background’ sources.  Modern human tissue has 50X the level of Dioxin ancient humans tissue contained.  Were it an incidence of natural background sources, we’d see a rough parity.  We don’t.

Human mothers have egregiously greater levels of Dioxin in their breast milk than is allowed for commercial cow’s milk!  See my article on the Dioxin Alert at:
http://amicuscuria.com/wordpress/?p=418

Of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg..but the sharp part.  A huge body of death, environmental destruction, and ruin of our quality of life for the seductive promise of ‘jobs’, is just below the surface.   You can see my parody of Patton on the issue at:

and our County Commissioners at:

This election cycle is nearly over. I have hopes that Nancy Williams, a dark horse candidate in the extreme with little political sophistication, will beat Tim at the polls.  Certainly I’ve done everything I can think of toward that end.

If Tim should win, that won’t end the undying enmity he’s earned from the community.  He has literally become Persona non grata in his own backyard, his home community…and for good reason.  Residents feel like they’ve been taken over by an occupying force–Tim, Jay Hupp, and their corporate pals.

When I asked Mr. Reed Wills (President of Adage) at the public presentation held in our Public Works facility hosted by KMAS Radio, the following question, please note his response:

“Mr. Wills, if Adage were persuaded the majority of residents didn’t want it, would you insist on setting up shop here anyway?”

His response: “I’m not going to answer that question.  It’s a ‘sand trap’.”

You say Tim is not a corporatist.  He’s repeatedly said he thinks Adage, et ux, is a great idea/fit for our community. Yet he has an important position on Energy NW.  You can confirm he is one of its corporate board members by viewing the following link:

Then consider the following:
Olympia, Wash., February 18, 2009 — ADAGE and Energy Northwest signed a preliminary agreement today to develop wood waste biomass power plants in the states of Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon. According to the agreement, the companies plan to jointly market clean wood biopower (biomass to electricity) to the 24 member utilities that comprise Energy Northwest, and to other regional utilities, with the goal of constructing and operating one or more 50 megawatt (MW) power generation plants in these states.

Linda, Tim was one of the primary supporters of the legislation that set up the sweetheart tax abatement with these companies AND their suppliers (Tim?).  You don’t think that’s a conflict of interest?  A corporate shill?

Need more proof that Tim (and Jay) greased the skids to put in the ‘fix’ years ago?  Then watch/check out the following video at:

If this were a jury trial, the evidence to convict Tim Sheldon of being a ‘corporatist’ would be overwhelming.  These corporations are criminally minded.  Anyone who deliberately poisons the air IS A CRIMINAL!  No amount of argument that the poor residents have been misled holds up to the reality.

The community, I believe, has it right on the merits AND the process.  Tim and the other Commissioners (the voters can’t seem to get rid of them *fast* enough…e.g. Ross Gallagher with only 14% of the primary vote despite the advantage of being the incumbent) unanimously turned down the community’s plea for an advisory ballot when it presented a petition for the same containing 3,200 signatures (more than 10% of the registered voters).

Allow me to express the sentiments of ONE resident as she told me:

Talked to a good friend of ours.  She lives within less than 1 mile from the proposed Adage Incinerator.  Her property is now virtually worthless and she knows about the dioxins that will be emitted.  ”I played by the rules, paid my bills and taxes, obeyed the laws.  I’ve helped the elderly and less fortunate, watched my neighbors’ kids, given shelter to the homeless.  And NOW they don’t even want to HEAR from us?  It feels like a *SLAP* in the face!…I’m voting for ‘grandma’ NANCY WILLIAMS for 35th District Senate.” -Kim-

You can view the entire article at:

Finally, there *are* aspects of Tim, your husband, I like.  He’s been available when called.  He has voted appropriately on many issues.  But he’s dead wrong on this one…one so important (BREATHING) it can’t be overlooked, deprecated, or discounted for ‘JOBS JOBS JOBS’.
Most parents would rather struggle for their child’s next meal than watch that child struggle for its next Breath!

For this reason, and all the others I’ve listed on

We are voting for Nancy Williams and urge others to do likewise despite the long odds, because we love life, our children, and this precious region more than the beads and blankets offered by Tim and his corporate pals.

Killing the Golden Spruce & TESC

Grant Hadwin got a chainsaw and did something terrible

(A tale of obsession so fierce that a man kills the thing he loves most: the only giant golden spruce on earth.)

Death of the Golden Spruce

This story is both chilling and instructive. It raises the question of sacrifice & opprobrium for a noble cause. If TESC insists on serving as a model for the BioMassacre of our forests, the destruction of our air quality, the assault on our health and our children, then what battle tactics are ‘legitimate’ in a war for social justice and the forests upon which we all depend?

You decide!

Click the following for a tale of Asymmetrical Warfare and the

Killing of the Golden Spruce

“NORRIS: Hadwin was–he was an experienced, even legendary, timber scout. He was an avid outdoorsman and passionate environmentalist. Why would

One of a Kind - Golden Spruce alive

he do something like this, destroy the thing he loved the most?

Mr. VAILLANT: It’s not something we can really look at in isolation. You know, you have to see a guy who went into the woods at 16, who was having misgivings about timber practices from the age of 17 onwards. And so when he got out to the Charlottes to Haida Gwaii and saw this tree–this tree stood on an enormous timber lease held by what was then the country’s biggest timber company, MacMillan Bloedel, which has since been bought by Weyerhaeuser. And he knew this tree had been saved by MacMillan Bloedel, and I think what he saw was, `If this is the only tree you care about, then I’m going to cut it down, so you can see how I feel and how so many other people feel about these other forests that are being cut down without a thought.'” -excerpt from NPR interview-

Vote for Brenda Hirschi, our next County Commissioner

Laura Lewis sagely argued: “Voting for someone isn’t the same as endorsing them.”  So it is that I and my wife feel compelled to vote for Brenda Hirschi for Mason County Commissioner.  My reservations have been expressed elsewhere in this Blog and I’ve been censored for it (Shawnie Whelan/Vedder and John Cox).  But although I personally LIKE Jerry and would gladly spend an evening tipping a few with him, Brenda’s campaign contributors aren’t supporters of Tim Sheldon and Adage.  i.e.  The enemy of my enemy is my ‘friend’.  Jerry appears to be the ‘friend’ of my enemy.

Jerry takes $ from Hupp, Wallitner, Bloomfield, Squaxin Tribe, Taylor

Mind you (and take notice) I’m going to be all over Brenda like maggots on rotten meat regarding ALL threats to our children’s health and those who would privatize the very air we breath.  But Jerry doesn’t even list Jay Hupp and Tom Wallitner in his recent ad printed by the Journal, realizing these officials are widely despised because of their willingness to allow the community to be poisoned by the likes of Adage and Simpson.  Still, the names he does list speak volumes about what forces support him…names known to the community as enemies of our collective health, our children, our environment, and our future.

So while I cannot ‘endorse’ Brenda for the reasons cited elsewhere on this Blog, I urge you to vote for her because, clearly, Jerry is already sleeping with the enemy.

ps:  While in office as County Commissioner, Mary Jo Cady threatened to ‘condemn’ a local resident’s (Guy Parson) land in retaliation for his attempts to defend against (what he viewed as) County mismanagement of his river bank in the flood plain of the Skokomish.  Bill Hunter signed the County up for the Growth Management Act.  Herb Baze was voted out of office for firing an employee who was too honest with the public regarding what a new highway through Belfair would cost…that and hiring an out of state manager (at great expense, but which Mary Jo had invited) to do the job we elected Herb to do on a generous salary.  Herb apparently didn’t want to do the job himself.  He just wanted the status and pay for it.  I wasn’t around when Annette (a brilliant campaign manager for Jerry) was Commissioner.  I can tell you she stood up and expressed doubt/confusion about the BioMassacre proposal.  She asked if it wouldn’t be better than current slash practices.  Annette appeared to be unaware such practices are being phased out completely and only 28,000 Tons/yr. of ‘slash’ in the entire Chehalis Air Gap (Lewis, Thurston, Grays Harbor, Mason) are burned now…enough to furnish Adage (alone) with only a 9-day supply of fuel.  Annette seems blind to how vital air quality, health, and our children are to the community and its future.  That is why Jerry is going to lose this election.  Annette gave him bad advice on this issue, and he didn’t have the heart/instincts to recognize it…that and he took money from the Devil.  If Jerry had a soul, he sold it.  The community will not reward him for doing so.  They’re going to elect Brenda Hirschi as County Commissioner because they believe she may protect the community in ways Jerry will not.

BioMassacre EIS Comments Sought by Mason County

The following link contains a letter from Mason County Planning Dept. Director, Barbara Adkins, inviting comments (for a 20-day period only) to her regarding the community impact issues of the proposed BioMassacre incinerator proposed by Adage on the Port of Shelton property situated next to the County’s Recreational Area for children.

Adage surveys its Domain

Please read it and submit your comments PRONTO!  Do NOT put it off until it’s too late.  Barbara Adkins needs our support and this is one way of giving it as well as helping ourselves.  This woman has risked her job putting the community before the personal aggrandizement of her ‘boss’, County Commissioner Tim Sheldon, one of the most hated politicians in Mason County about now.
